The Idaho Watercolor Society (IWS) is a state-wide, non-profit organization that sponsors a variety of events, workshops and exhibitions that promote artwork created in water media.  The annual juried membership exhibition draws 150 entries or more from artists throughout the state. Only 50 of these entries make it into the show. The annual exhibition is the most prestigious event held by the organization that supports watercolorists from Idaho. An internationally known artist is asked to “jury” the show. This juror is also the instructor at a workshop given in conjunction with the opening of the show. This year’s winning paintings will be shown at the Boise State University gallery in Boise. The show runs from May 30th to June 26.  During a ceremony for the participants on June 7th, the juror will choose the top 20 paintings to receive awards of cash and merchandise worth about $3500.  These 20 paintings will tour the state from July thru December as the “IWS Traveling Show”.

If an artist is accepted into any three IWS annual juried shows or any other juried state or national show within the last ten years, they are awarded Merit Member status. Distinguished Merit Members are those who have won at least three awards in qualified exhibitions which means they have the honor to add the IWS symbol to their signatures on future paintings. In 2013, Paula Guth’s painting “Amanda”, won the Richard E. Bird Memorial Award which earned her the Distinguished Merit Member status.

This year Teresa Wade’s painting “Winterfrost” has been accepted into this years’ IWS show. On June 7th, she will be honored at the ceremony in Boise.  Other gallery members who have had the honor to be accepted into the juried IWS shows are Leila Jarvis, Carol Havemann, Sandy Templeton, and Celeste Graham.
